ECA Subregional Offices

The sub-regional offices were mandated to support Member States in their efforts to strengthen sub-regional cooperation and regional integration in Central Africa. Within this framework, the Central Africa sub-regional office has to work in partnership with institutions responsible for facilitating sub-regional economic grouping, namely the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Central Africa Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), as well as with sector-based intergovernmental institutions, the private sector and civil society organizations (CSOs).
East Africa
The ECA Office in East Africa serves the following thirteen countries: Burundi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, United Republic of Tanzania, and Uganda. The ECA East Africa Office is located in Kigali, Rwanda.
North Africa
The ECA Office in North Africa serves the following seven countries: Algeria, Egypt, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia. The ECA North Africa Office is located in Rabat, Morocco.
Southern Africa
The ECA sub regional Office for Southern Africa (ECA-SA) based in Lusaka, Zambia serves the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The main function of the ECA-SA is to translate the UNECA’s normative and analytical work into operational activities at the sub regional and country levels, particularly with respect to harmonising policies and programmes of action, providing policy advisory services, facilitating regional integration and generally serving as focal points for policy dialogue and information exchange. ECA-SA works collaboratively with Regional Economic Communities (RECs), inter-governmental organizations (IGOs), private sector, civil society organizations and the United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs). An Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE), comprising senior Government experts from the member States and a sub organ of the ECA conference of Ministers of Economic Development and Planning provides policy direction and supervises the work of the ECA-SA.
West Africa
The ECA Office in West Africa serves the following fifteen countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The ECA West Africa Office is located in Niamey, Niger.
