Harmonization of the socio-economic indicators is a “condition sine qua none” for the production of reliable and comparable data. It must make it possible for States to produce efficient indicators intended to monitor-evaluate the development policies implementation, in particular in the context of poverty reduction and achievement of the objectives of the millennium development goals. Therefore statistical data collection, analysis and dissemination would be done within a coherent and scientific and harmonized framework between States. In this framework SRO-EA is intending to set up an Observatory of Regional Integration (ORI), which would allow Member States, not only to develop and reinforce their statistical capacities, but also to encourage and facilitate statistical information exchange between their principal partners of which the Regional Economic Communities (RECs). As a Gateway of diffusion at the sub-regional, regional and worldwide level the Observatory is a mirror of politics and economics and social activities in the integration zone.
